QUITO
EXCELLENT TOURIST DESTINATION
Located in the Andes mountain range, at 2800 meters, Quito
is the perfect destination for a trip full of cultural
discoveries and fun. Quito offers visitors the opportunity
to mingle between the colonial and the contemporary,
visiting its colonial structures in the Historic Down Town,
which was declared Cultural Patrimony of Humanity by UNESCO
in 1978.
Quito was born on the ruins of the Shyris Indian Empire; it
was founded December 6, 1534 by Spaniards. Today the city
has 12,000 square kilometers of extension and almost
2,000,000 inhabitants.
The temperature fluctuates between 10 and 25 Cº (50 and 77 Fº). Quito is
characterized by its capricious climate; in just one day the
temperature can vary greatly. This should be taken into
consideration; you have to be prepared for everything!
Surrounded by majestic scenery of volcanoes, vegetation, and
the Andes mountain range, Quito is the proper destination
for your business trip or vacation.
In Quito you will have the opportunity to relive the past
when you visit the beautiful colonial buildings, which are
hundreds of years old. At the same time you can enjoy the
history of its museums and convents. No visit would be
complete without visiting modern Quito, where you can find
shopping centers, bars, restaurants, and night clubs- the
perfect complement for your entertainment.
Quito boasts an envied location. By just traveling a few
hours you can visit the most wonderful places in Ecuador:
the coast, the mountains and the jungle. Just an hour from
the city is the tallest and most active volcano in the
world, Cotopaxi, located in the national park of the same
name. Rich vegetation and fauna create a perfect destination
for adventurers who wish to feel at the top of the world.
Two hours north of Quito is the province of Imbabura with
majestic lakes, and its famous Otavalo Market, where you can
find the most beautiful hand made crafts in a colorful,
festive and musical environment.
Just two and half hours away from Quito is Baños, a paradise
full of waterfalls, rivers, and natural hot springs. Baños
is a small city dedicated to tourism which enjoys
subtropical vegetation and climate. It is a destination
where you can get closer to nature, still have fun, eat good
food, and dance a little.
A few kilometers from Quito you’ll find the “Mitad del Mundo”
(Middle of the World). With all its attractions, including
museums, nobody should leave Quito without experiencing the
thrill of standing on both the Northern and Southern
hemispheres at the same time.
