Churete’s Ecological Reserve

Churute Ecological mangrove reserve is one of Guayas province’s Natural Patrimonies, it’s a beautiful place where mangroves full of fantasy and history can still be found legends of an enchanted mountain, surrounded by bird’s trill, and howling monkeys. To the eyes of the world, Churute is a tourist destination that should be visited. Since 1996 the reserve has an Interpretation Center, located near the entrance to the path “El Mate”. This center has an exposition hall and an area which will house numerous dioramas.

CHURUTE ESTUARY (BY BOAT)

To begin the journey on the estuary it’s necessary to reach a pier located on a shrimp farm 20 minutes away from the Interpretation Center. From here you navigate the estuaries “Soledad Chico” and “Soledad Grande” which take you to the “Churute Estuary,” which will take you to the mouth of the “Potrero” estuary on the Island of the English. (The biggest concentration of aquatic and coastal migratory and local birds of the reserve can be found here). It will take 30 minutes to reach the Potrero estuary. You go back the same way.  The mangrove’s ecosystem can be observed in the journey, and from June to November dolphins pods can be seen.

THE FLORA

If you can’t make the journey by boat to the mangrove forest, then visit the ”flora zone,” where you can see the different species of Ecuadorian mangroves, some over 10 meters high. Since this site is 20 minutes away from “La Cascada” Path, it is recommended both places should be visited on the same trip.
