The meaning of the symbols of the Ecuadorian
Coat of Arms is:
The condor
symbolizes the power, courage, and strength
The golden sun: On a band across the sky
are the zodiacal signs corresponding to months
which are historically significant to
Ecuadorians. Centered among these is the sun
an ancient Inca symbol.
The mountain symbolizes the great
Chimborazo and the Guayas river which begins in
this mountain.
The steamboat Guayas, was the first of
its kind built in South America.
The mast is a caduceus: it symbolizes
“accord and trade”.
